We get given a tour, if you like of things that existed in his life, and how exactly he feels about those t Wow, Charles Bukowski. This book promises ‘the best of the best of Bukowski’, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint – then again, at over pages, there’s a lot in there to choose from.

I believe he did it. The Pleasures of the Damned by Charles Bukowski. He saw the absolute beauty in things that other people wouldn’t give a second glance to. His poetry is easy to understand and straight forward, he writes about the everyday, the mundane yet beautiful normality of life.

As a writer he used his home city of Los Angeles as his muse, writing poetry from the viewpoint of the poor, the homeless, the bums on skid row and the bar flies strung out on booze. He saw the irony in working hard for pf to live to the point of death.

His observations are as blunt as a hammer, he is merciless where as many have showed him mercy. A very beautiful review.

I’m not a part o that world. I read this book because Bukowski is often quoted. He’s really just a bitter, offensive guy. The missing stars go to the editor, not Hank. No fancy wording or clever rhymes.

During his lifetime he published more than forty-five books, including novels such as Damend, Post Office and Ham on Rye. Bukowski was like the king of the down and outs, I admire this man so much.
